Birthday Suit 1, 2 or 3

Friday is my birthday! Over the weekend, I celebrated with my incredible friends in DC (and my NY loves made an appearance too!). Tonight is my traditional Pittsburgh celebration with my group of girls. Then I’ll do my family celebration on Thanksgiving and thrifting on Friday! My perfect birthday :-) So this morning my thoughts were on the perfect look for tonight. Here are the three choices I am thinking about:

1. Floral + Motorcycle Jacket

UO Jacket| Floral Shift w/ pockets, Leather and Suede boots, AE shoulder bag: thrifted

2. Shorts Suit + Chambray

Barrage Tuxedo Blazer, LizSport Button down, Necklace: Thrifted| Silence + Noise Shorts: Goodwill| Carlos Santana Nude Peeptoe: Buffalo Exchange

3. Sequins + Silk

City Streets Navy Blazer, Sequins Top: Thrifted| Jezebel Tapered Trousers: Gabriel Brothers| Snakeprint Nude Pumps: Rugged Warehouse, VA

I am really leaning towards look two, but I do love a little sparkle on my birthday. Look one feels a little similar to what I wore during my weekend birthday celebration, but I can’t say no to a good rocker floral. Help me pick!

I don’t really do Black Friday but I will be more than ready when Cyber Monday rolls around. I love “free shipping” deals and many sites give really good deals (including ABS Vintage!). We’ll talk about some of these steals next time.

Have an amazing Thanksgiving, my loves. The list of things that I am thankful for has no end, but you all have most definitely made the list. This blog has given me so much since I started it over a year ago. And knowing that I have some of you keeping on this journey means so much. Blogging has changed my life, and my amazing readers have been along for the ride. Thank you all!

Enjoy the holiday!

End of Summer Style: AfroPunk Fest 2012

I am back! I spent my weekend in sunny NYC enjoying the great sights and amazing music of AfroPunk Fest 2012. Of course I didn’t get many pictures – I am really so horrible at that, I just get so wrapped up in enjoying that I don’t think about them until it’s too late. BUT I did bring back the best end of summer/beginning of fall trends that I soaked up at the festival.

Image: Hallelu

Highlighter Neon: The 80s aren’t going anywhere. Dayglo and highlighter hues were all over this weekend and I am super happy that we can move this trend on in to fall. Denim is the perfect way to move your neons on to cooler weather. Blazers and neutral tones will also bring these colors in to the fall for both men and women.

Image: EMC Blue

Printed Bottoms: Leggings, tights, jeans, harem pants, leopard, floral, aztec, polka dot - name it and I saw it this weekend. Everyone was indulging in how hot patterned pants are right now. Check Target and Kmart for some reasonably priced options. Not sold on printed pants yet? Try patterned tights first under a flowing short dress with ankle boots. This will give you the advantage of decorated legs without the worry of it being too much. Gentlemen, these are for you too – camo, stripes, ikat – lots of options to wear prints on the bottom.

Image: Street Etiquette

Accessories Galore: Ladies, we always have the option of making any outfit new with accessories. But this weekend it was the fellas who were taking full advantage of  what some good accessories can do for any outfit. We have already had the “man bag” discussion, but this weekend was all about jewelry on men. You can be a long way from Mr. T and still rock more than just a dog tag or a watch. Leather is the perfect way to keep accessories masculine. There are tons of options for adding a little extra to your slim fits and tees.

And here is what I wore! The girl on the left is Feleg, we met her on the way to the park. She was from Italy and hung with my friends and I for the day (notice her highlighter high-low dress, adorable!)

Polka Dot Short/Basketweave Crossbody/LOVE Pin/ Pyramid Earrings: Thrifted| Forever 21 crop tank | Snakeskin Sunnies: Urban Outfitters

Happy Wednesday :-)

Summer Must Have: Cut Out Mini Dress

Eight days after the official start of summer, I realized that I haven’t started any summer essential rants yet. It’s 1,000 degrees in Pittsburgh already today, so knowing how to dress cute without melting was top on my list this morning. First on my summer must-haves are cut out mini dresses. And I don’t mean cut outs a la Julia Roberts in Pretty Women – I mean subtle cut outs that show a little skin. Here are some examples:

ASOS is the winner with cut out mini dresses for me (all three from them), but the prices are not at all what I like to see. Also, lots of their back cut outs will show the whole back – which is super sexy, but a little unrealistic for some of us who have been blessed in the front. This is why I am in love with the smaller cut outs that still allow you to rock your bra of choice while taking advantage of the trend. I found some adorable DIYs for cut outs. With these tutorials you can turn that thrifted plan dress in to the perfect summer essential.

a pair and a spare: DIY Cut Out Mini Dress

The Pineneedle Collection: DIY Cut Out Dress

Make these tutorials your own. Put the cut outs where you want, and as big or small as you feel comfortable with. That’s the perfect part about DIYs, you can tailor it just for you.

And loves, I have a living room full of new goodies for the store but I have a product limit and can’t upload new pics until some stuff sells. So buy away! I promise I have new skirts, jewelry and tops waiting for you.

Have a great weekend :-)

Cart Confessions: Sister Edition

That’s my sister on the left – I call her “Chich”. People have always said that we were different from night and day growing up, but as adults we have a lot more in common. One of those things is our love of bargains. Last Saturday, we somehow ended up spending the whole day thrifting. I took her to two local places that I don’t go to often, and here is what I scooped up:

I am a big fan of what I call ”button earrings”. Bigger than studs, but not hoops or chandelier. These were both a dollar and fit in nicely with my bowl of others.

I was very excited to find these multi-color leather Nine West loafers. I own a lot of flats but I really don’t think you can have too many vintage leather ones. Okay, maybe you can but I loved these and couldn’t leave them!

I wish the color came out better on the neon yellow skinnies I found. Think a highlighter and you can picture the real color. The other lovelies are a sheer wrap dress and the most adorable nautical maxi skirt. My total for this thrifting trip was $13. Not bad at all. And I got to spend a day with my besty sister, so it was a win all around.

Do you have any new thrifting finds to share?

I promised my loves from DC (who are coming in town this weekend) that I would take them thrifting so I’ll probably have another Cart Confession for you next week. Have a great weekend :-)

Shopping sisters,

Cart Confessions: Goodwill edition

I have really been trying to shop less. I am moving out of my place in a few months and the amount of clothes and shoes I have accumulated seems insane. Two clothes closets, a shoe closet, bins of bags, a dresser and storage drawers full is too much. I do have two baskets full of clothes to donate though, so I am on the right track. Anyway, all of this to say that I’ve been thrifting only twice in the last three weeks and came home with 4 lovelies. Now I deserve a hand clap for that…four new things in three weeks? I’m getting better!

I found this perfect neon clutch last night at one of my favorite Goodwills. It was 25% off of the 3.99 sticker:

Neon is so big this spring. It also has a metal strap that you can detach to give it a short strapped handbag look.

And from my trip a few weeks ago (to the same Goodwill actually), I found this adorable print Jones of New York wrap dress, a floor length black chiffon skirt and a denim button down:

You know how real my love for a-line chiffon is, and I have been searching for a thrifted denim button down since “Don’t call it a comeback“. So this is a big deal for my wardrobe. The Jones of New York classic was just the vintage icing on the cake for my trip – love the print.

So that’s what I have been up to – what about you? I know there are some thrifting finds out there you are just dying to share…so brag away!

Have a great Easter and Happy Friday :-)

6 newest thrifting finds

Pocahontas let us know how important all the colors of the wind are. And while searching through my closet I realized that my latest thrifting finds have all been very colorful. I think I am subconsciously trying to conjure up spring by adding as much hue to my wardrobe as possible. It’s be awhile since I did a thrifting find post (and feel another shopping ration coming on – I have no room for anything new), so here are my 6 newest thrifting finds from my local shops and beyond:

Alpenblick Cable knit wool sweater – $3.99

Kasper A.S.L blazer – $7.99

Tribal print button down (no tag) -$2.99

Front

Gold sequin top (no tag) – $3

Chiffon A-line maxi skirt (no tag) – $7

Chiffon A-line maxi skirt – $4.99

I have been a major fan of chiffon a-line skirts since the “Nobody puts baby in a corner” days. And now I am the super proud owner of two! Spring can not get here fast enough for me to bust these lovelies out. And my 4-year-old niece (my Fashionably Tardy in training) could not agree more. This is what happens when she saw the blue chiffon in my closet:

She wanted it belted and she was in heaven. Another thrifting addict in the making.

I am so excited to make some memorable outfits with my latest colorful finds. I wore the sequins top to a Nine Simone event last weekend – with black leggings and a black boyfriend blazer. I felt like a Solid Gold dancer, and loved every minute of it. Have also gotten some wear out of my Purple Rain Kasper blazer since scooping it up. I’m getting better at remembering to take outfit pictures so believe that you’ll be seeing these pieces again.

Share your latest thrifting finds!  – I know some of you have been out these hunting, brag a little about how much you got for such little money :-)

Well darlings, I am heading to New York for the weekend so I won’t be back until Monday. But fingers crossed I will do some fabulous NY thrifting and have some goodies to share with you.

Have a great rest of the week!

Stylish blasts from the past,

Fashionably Tardy

Scouts Honor

So forever ago I scooped up a Boy Scouts of America shirt covered in patches at one of the great Boston thrift stores I visited last September. I finally got a chance to wear it the other day with one of the bragged about additions to my shoe closet. So this will be a semi-outfit post, plus a gimme gimme…for less! I’ve been buying shoes like there is no tomorrow lately. And while I am planning another shopping ration, I like to get you all scooped up in the sales too. Shoe addicts love company :-)

I wore this boy scout button down with a slouchy gray sweater and belted to give it some shape. But here I just wanted you to get the hard-working boy scout of it all:

Boy Scout shirt: thrifted | Just USA jeans: old | Merona leopard scarf: Target | Hailes Collection wedges: Target

And now for my favorite part of the outfit (and the gimme, gimme…for less!):

I scooped up these desert wedges from Target. Online they are still selling them for $39.99, but my local store had them on the clearance rack for a wonderful $14.98 (okay, okay and I bought them in black too). These shoes are perfect! Very high wedge, but very comfortable. Check out your local stores clearance rack to see if they have some deals we aren’t seeing online.

Gimme, Gimme…

W5 Wedge desert boot – $515

For less!

Women’s Haile Collection lace up wedge boot - $14.98 (in local store), $39.99 (here), Target

So run to see if your local store has these lovelies, and live out the rest of this winter and chilly first days of spring in one of the hottest shoe trends out right now.

Have a great Wednesday!

On my style honor,

Fashionably Tardy

Valentine’s Day Outfit Ideas

Part of this post-relationship transformation I have gone through has included a growing excitement about Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day in a relationship felt like a lot of pressure, and the next day comparison with other girls in couples was my least favorite part of it all. With my second single girl Valentine’s Day coming up, I’m excited to hit up a BYOB Thai restaurant with my friends and have an excuse to wear red and ruffles and lace. I just like celebrations – and a day for telling people that you care about them sounds like nothing but good. I styled three outfit ideas for you ladies, depending on your plans I think any of these will give you the girly look and feel that I love on Valentine’s Day.

1. Casual Night Out

I am always a fan of florals, and Valentine’s Day feels like the perfect time to dress them up with some pastels and soft earth tones.

Navy Blue blazer: thrifted | Faded Glory floral tank: Walmart | Delia’s pale pink cords: Delia’s | Cooperative cognac wedges: Urban Outfitters (here) | Smile Brightening lip treatment in Brilliant: Rite Aid

2. Dressy Night Out

This outfit is all about my love for a simple black dress with the right pop of color. And nothing says sexy like a fitted party dress mixed with a few structured pieces.

Miss Selfridge Lace back Party Dress:gifted | Tuxedo Blazer: thrifted | Anne Michelle Burgundy heeled loafers | Collar Necklace: borrowed | George patterned tights: Target | Wet n Wild fast dry nail color in Everybody Loves Redmond : Walgreens | Stila lipcolor in Lover: Rite Aid

3. Casual Night In

Sometimes the winter weather makes for a perfect night in on Valentine’s Day. I still like to pull out all of the girly stops for a night on the couch watching movies.

Anne Taylor Loft Lounge sweater: thrifted | Tiered ruffle shirt: borrowed | No Boundries leggings: Walmart | Merona red floral scarf: Target (here) |  Joyce zip up boots: thrifted

I’m going to make sure I take an outfit picture tomorrow and show you all which outfit I chose for my Valentine’s Day celebrations. And I want to hear about your Valentine’s plans!—What are you wearing? Where are you going? How do you feel about this day of love?

Hope everyone has a great Monday and is excited about another day devoted to love :-)

Love (and style) are in the air,

Fashionably Tardy
