Vintage meets Modern: 1920s Men

Sometimes I just want a night in. A night of doing nothing productive and loving it. This Saturday was my night in – and on top of browsing my favorite online stores, I got in to a Netflix marathon of My Fair Wedding. David Tutera helps these scattered brides put together a wedding that makes sense and speaks to their personal style. My favorite so far was this Great Gatsby wedding that he did for a woman who lived for the 1920s. A retro wedding after my own heart. Not sure how close to marriage I am, but I am pretty set on the vintage theme that will take place at my wedding. Mine will probably be a little more classic 1940s but I definitely want an era feel throughout the whole thing. I’ve talked before about how much I love using a period to mix vintage and modern, while still staying true to an era. So here are some ways that you gentleman can add a little 1920s in to a contemporary look.

Euro Cuts. The 1920s gentleman was always fitted to a tee. There was the trend of wide legged suit bottoms, but everything was fitted like a glove. The rebel rousers went outside of this trend with baggy knickers but we’ll keep it clean-cut for our vintage redo.

Perfectly Pale. I love the color palette of the 1920s. As my Dad would put it “this puts the gentle back in the man”. Keep your shades light, airy and ethereal.

Mix and Match. This hodge podge of suit pieces is so perfect. It’s like Dapper Dan meets Vaudeville Man – in love. Adore the patches, gushing about the slim fit colored cords. It’s just a great look to show you can do more than dress from a mannequin.

Patterns Galore. So much plaid, mixed with stripes, mixed with windowpane. This preppy look is everything for the 1920s well dressed man. Throw a straw skimmer hat and some round frames in the mix and you are perfect.

How do you feel about these 1920s inspired looks, fellas? Something you already throw in the repertoire?

And this fits perfectly in to the great fashion show I am co-styling at 720 Music, Clothing and Cafe. The lovely mind behind 720 Instant Vintage has come up with a show called “Retro Remixed” – the perfect blend of vintage and modern. The show is coming up this Sunday, July 22nd from 6pm – 9pm. Mark your calendars, you will not want to miss this!

Have a great Monday :-)
